Introduction
Sacre-Coeur's Oko regional block gold properties consist of six prospecting permits that total 50.8 sq mi. These properties are located in the vicinity of some significant historic and recent gold producing areas. The Oko River Block also presents significant primary gold potential due to some recent discoveries in the area.
Location and Access
Property access is by an all weather dirt road that reaches the Cuyuni River and reaches very close to the Oko River properties. The entire trip from Georgetown to the Oko River Block takes approximately eight hours by 4x4 pick-up truck. Branch roads accessible by ATVs and 4x4 trucks lead to the different gold producing areas within these properties. Heavy exploration and mining equipment can be transported via barge to Itibali and over the road to the project site, similar to the transportation plan for Lower Puruni.
Historic and Current Gold Mining
Historic alluvial and primary gold mining activities have been reported in this area since the turn of the century and continue today. The most important historic gold mining activities date back to the 1940's, when Anaconda Mining carried out a significant gold exploration program which led to the discovery of the Aremu Mine. The Aremu Mine deposit consists of several high-grade quartz veins located on the contact between granites and metasediments. The area was mined in the late 1940's with reported grades of nearly one ounce per ton.
A gold exploration program in the area by Golden Star Resources (1990 to 1992) reported the presence of significant soil anomalies, as well as some high-grade primary gold occurrences, particularly in the vicinity of the old Aremu Mine area and the Silvercup Creek area. In late 2004, on a property adjacent to the Company's Oko regional block, a high grade gold bearing mineralized quartz vein was identified by Brazilian miners operating in the area.
This vein has a reported strike length of over 250 meters and shows grades greater than 4 ounces per ton. The Brazilian group is presently developing underground mining on this discovery and are reporting significant gold sales to the Guyana Gold Board.
Primary Gold Potential
The Company considers the Oko regional block to be highly prospective for primary gold deposit(s) based upon the historic production from the Aremu Mine, and based upon the recent lode gold discovery on an adjoining property.
Recent Geological Activities
A partial digital database is available for the Oko regional block. This database includes radar satellite images, historic mineral occurrence maps, base maps (rivers, roads, etc) and geochemistry maps. Copies of this database are available from the GGMC. The GGMC has recently completed a reconnaissance geologic program which included geological mapping, stream sediment sampling and rock sampling for BLEG and ICP analysis, petrographic analysis and interpretation of results on a portion of the Oko regional block.
